Summary Description

IPCE is responsible for the conservation and restoration of Spanish Cultural Heritage. Gómez-Arteaga archive is composed of over 20.000 samples taken from Spanish archaeological sites, monuments and all kinds of objects from different National Art Collections, which mainly include European Art, but also other origins such as the Mediterranean Basin and Latin America. Concerning chronology, they range from Antiquity (3.000 B.C.) to the XXth Century (1970). The archive also contains the related data and information generated from the analysis of the samples, all linked through a database that guarantees their traceability.

Gómez-Arteaga archive has an outstanding scientific and research potential due to its wide variety of samples, preparation techniques and materials. Its main values are: 
•    Scientific and Historic Value. Exceptional source of information for researchers, curators and conservators.
•    Safe storage space. Integrity and security guaranteed.
•    Traceability. Location of samples, analysis process data and reports of each object are registered in a database designed for this purpose.
•    Dynamic archive: continuous recording of new samples and their analytical and technical data.
•    Possibility of reanalysing microsamples in the future with more advanced techniques preserving the integrity of the artefact under study.

Access requirements

In order to access to the Gómez-Arteaga Archive, users must contact IPCE’s documentation department and demonstrate a legitimate need. Intellectual property of accessed documentation corresponds to the Spanish Culture Ministry. The user agrees that the ownership of new raw data possibly collected during the Access on Provider’s samples is allocated to the Provider (a digital copy would be provided to the user). Any use of the accessed information (analysis, results, samples, documentation, etc.), such as copy, distribution, public communication, diffusion and publishing, should have written authorization of the Spanish Cultural Heritage Institute, IPCE. The user agrees to respect intellectual property rules and the integrity of the images. The user agrees to mention its source (Instituto del Patrimonio cultural de España, Ministerio de Cultura de España, dossier number or samples records). The user agrees that the provider is to be included as coauthor in publications that may come out from the access. The use of information is limited to the purposes in the request. Transfer to third parties is forbidden.
